You could be forgiven for thinking that The Local Taphouse is a pub. It feels a bit like a pub, mainly because of its corner location, but it is a bar, and a darn good one at that! The Local Taphouse is all about beers. They have about 20 different brews on tap at any given time and a whole bunch of beers in addition to that in bottles and cans too. This really is a beer lovers heaven and The Local recently won the award for Australia’s best beer venue and gongs like that aren’t given out lightly. So suffice to say that if you love a beer, you’ll love The Local Taphouse.
Beer, however, isn’t the only focus of this bar, food here is taken very seriously as well. There’s a full kitchen that serves up everything from tapas style bar snacks, to chicken, fish, steak, pizza, a good-old-fashioned schnitzel and a roast every Sunday. The menu is extensive and resembles a menu you would find at a gastro pub rather than a bar. They have gluten-free and vegetarian options clearly marked, which is a nice touch and indicates the versatility of the menu and thoughtfulness towards the punters. They do beer and food matchings too, so if you’re into your craft beers and love a good feed, then look no further, this could be the dining experience you’ve been waiting for!
The Local Taphouse is a terrific venue, with a cosy bar downstairs, a couple of beautifully fitted out rooms upstairs (which can be booked for private parties) and a sensational open-air rooftop bar. If you love a beer then swing by The Local and say “g’day”. And if you don’t drink beer? Then swing by The Local and say “g’day”, because there’s so much more to this wonderful tavern-style bar than beer.
