Description

Description

Jed Clarke, aka The Beer Baron, is a bit of a legend in the Sydney’s bar scene. A few years back he came up with the genius idea of alcohol delivery to your home, at all hours of the day and night and through that venture alone he made a lot of friends. Unfortunately the Police shut him down, so the logical next move for Jed was to open a small bar, where he could still sell booze, albeit this time a little more above board than peddling beer and vodka out the back of his car. So The Beer Baron opened his own bar – The Dock!

The Dock was the first bar to open up at the west end of Redfern, which some might say is the ‘dodgy end’ but Jed recognized that  there was a need for neighbourhood bar in this neck of the woods and he has created one of Sydney’s best neighbourhood bars! Imagine dropping by a friend’s ‘man cave’ for a few beers, some tunes and maybe a game of darts. Well that’s exactly what it’s like stepping into The Dock. It’s not set out to be ‘blokey’ but it does have that thrown together look and a ‘couldn’t care less’ kind of attitude, but THAT’S what makes the Dock so appealing. Having said that, it’s just as much a ‘girl cave’ as a man cave and there’s no suggestion whatsoever that this is just a bar for the boys. The Dock really doesn’t care less about the latest and greatest in bar design and trends or anything like that, it’s just a place to knock back a few beers and a couple of shots with your mates and have a lot of fun doing it. They are ramping up the music content at The Dock too, so the parties will no doubt be getting more more fun, and more notorious as the year rolls along.

This is arguably the quintessential  neighbourhood bar.  Why? Because you can find locals there every night of the week and there’s a fair chance Jed and his crew will know you by name . The Dock now sits amongst a cluster of small bars at the west end of Redfern, which has firmly established itself as one of Sydney’s best small-bar precincts. Jed Clarke was brave to be the first to open a small bar at the ‘dodgy’, but that chance has paid off and The Dock is one of the best neighbourhood bars in Sydney.
