Despite its close proximity to Sydney’s CBD, Kirribilli has a very charming ‘village’ feel about it, but up until recently there was only one place in the neighbourhood to grab a drink and that was a bog-standard pub. But now Kirribilli has its very own small bar. In fact there are now a couple of small bars, but The Botanist was the first to swing open the doors, much to the delight of locals. The name for this bar came from an Englishman, who was in fact a Botanist and ran a bookshop from this exact site, many, many years ago! These days though classic literature has made way for classic cocktails and a lower north shore crowd that is quite clearly chuffed that they now have a new place to play.
Like many small bars these days food is equally as important as drinks and because the venue is predominately filled with tables and chairs it would suggest that it is more a restaurant than a bar, however the drinks menu would suggest that it is equally much a bar as it is a restaurant. The Botanist is a very welcome addition to a corner of Sydney that was severely lacking in choices of drinking venues. Along with Small Bar & Kitchen just down the raod, The Botanist is part of the booming lower north shore small bar scene. Our suggestion is that you take a trip over to lovely Kirribilli, drop into The Botanist, put your roots down and stay a while.
