Lane way bars have been a real feature of Melbourne’s small bar scene for quite a while and they’re slowly taking foothold in Sydney too. Red Lily is one such lane way bar and it sits directly opposite another of Sydney’s best lane way bars – Love Tily Devine. So quite literally you have Love Tily and Red Lily opposite each other in Crown Lane and that makes the visit to this Darlinghurst lane way doubly worth it!
Red Lily is the cocktail bar out the back of Red Lantern (on Riley) which is the very popular and somewhat famous restaurant of celebrity chef Luke Nguyen. Red Lantern serves up some of the very best Vietnamese food you’ll find in Australia and now you can enjoy a pre or post-dinner cocktail (or both) at this fabulously cute small bar which you enter through the restaurant or from Crown Lane. Red Lily serves up Saigon style street snacks and Asian inspired cocktails and of course they have the delicious Tiger Beer on tap – it’s a terrific beer, like so many of the Asian beers are. Red Lily is one of those typically ‘cosy’ small bars and there’s a wonderful vibe in here – a bar which you can settle into with a couple of friends and just drink and talk your way through the whole night. Yes it’s a sensational date bar too and the fact that it’s attached to of one of Sydney’s best Asian restaurants is more than enough reason to drop into Red Lily and say ‘Xin chào’ – ‘Hello’ … then eventually, and regrettably, say ‘Chúc ng? ngon’ – ‘Goodnight’.
