If there was ever a competition to find the 10 best names for a bar ‘The Old Growler’ would make that list – and probably go top 5! The Old Growler is the newest bar to open in Kings Cross, although technically it’s Woolloomooloo, but it’s within a stone’s throw of the iconic Coca-cola sign, so labeling it a King’s Cross bar is probably more worthy.
The Old Growler has opened up in a venue that was once an Italian restaurant and it’s yet another basement bar, so the noisy traffic on William Street and chaos of Kings Cross never filters into this submersed and dimly lit venue. They do a traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings and now that we’re into the cooler weather, the good-old-fashioned Sunday roast is about the perfect meal to round off the weekend! There’s plenty of Young Henry’s beer on tap here too, perfect for washing down that Sunday roast or perfect just on its own. They are pretty big on local produce at The Old Growler, so having locally brewed Young Henry’s on tap is a perfect fit for this bar. The Old Growler is a wonderful addition to the neighbourhood – bringing small-bar culture and friendliness to an area that sorely needs more venues like this
