A small bar that is the heartbeat of Erskineville Village in Sydney’s inner-west. The philosophy at Hive is to create a bar for the locals where locals can contribute to the bar and help shape its style, look and feel. Local artists are encouraged to exhibit at Hive and the bar is involved with local record fairs and other community initiatives. Sustainability and operating as close as possible to carbon-neutral is a really big deal and they recycle everything, including their cooking oil and all power is 100% accredited green power. It’s such a wonderful ethos to bring to a small bar which highlights the fact that the guys at Hive want to be part of the community, yet have very little environmental impact on the community. No, they’re not hippies, they are just forward thinkers!
The Hive not only do ‘community’ and ‘sustainability’ well, they do food and drinks well too! There’s a range of share plates, burgers and pizzas and they do a decent big breakfast on weekends as well as craft beers on tap and a really good list of cocktails – classics and a really good range of house specials. Hive Bar has really embraced the village which it is nestled in and Erskineville has certainly embraced The Hive Bar. However, you certainly don’t have to be a local to enjoy this very friendly and very fun neighbourhood bar.
